South Africa-2011
On November 18, we returned from a 2 1/2 month trip to South Africa and Egypt. The first two months were spent on a short-term mission with our log-time friend and missionary Marilyn Cook. Marilyn's work is with children in the poverty stricken village of Lesiden in the Limpopo Province of South Africa.
The two young ladies pictured with us (at Austin airport) Becky Mathews and Sonia Carrillo (Higih School grads) from our church went with us. They did a 3 month internship at "The Fold," an orphanage in Limplpo. They were working with the children there. They report it was a life changing experience! (more about their experience later).
When we left there, we visited an amazing wildlife work called San Wild. San Wild is a wild life santuary that takes in and cares for wild animals that have been wounded, abandonded or for whatever reason can't survive on their own in the wild. They are feeed and cared for there until they are able to be returned to the wild. If their condition is such that they can't return to the wild, they live out their life at San Wild. Having thousands of acres available, they have a good life and provide a good deal of enjoyment for the folks who manage San Wild and their visiting guests.
We have included a few photos of both adventures and are working on editing down the hours of video we shot while there. We'll be uploading some of that soon, so stay tuned.
