Safina House Mission - 2008...

In 1997 Werema Mwita approached Brad and Tammie Harvey about the plight of children living on the streets of Dodoma, Tanzania.

Subsquently the Harveys worked with Mwita and together they started Safina House.

Mwita is the Director at Safina and is dedicated to revealing the love of Christ to these young people, encouraging and equipping them to be not just workers, but also leaders.Mwtia's story is quite inspiration.

Safina is Swahili, it means "Ark."Safina is an Ark (safety from the raging storms of life) for abused, abandoned and neglected children.

An official project of Pioneer Bible Translators, Safina is a nonprofit organization existing entirely on private donations. They receive no government funds.

Tammie Harvey is on the Safina board of directors and keeps a watchful eye
over this exceptional ministry.

After our visit there in 2004, other members of our church have began adding some supporting funds. However, Safina is still in need
of additional funds to complete the construction projects that were started as well as to provide shelter, food, clothing, education and medical needs of the children already there plus those sure to be added.

During our tour there in 2008 Tammie and Babu were scheduled for a quarterly directors meeting with Mwita, so June, Linn Rhen and I took the opportunity to make the 3 hour drive to Dadoma with them.We had a wonderful visit at Safina House and witnessed the work there first hand.

We did get to spend time with the children and talked with Mwita and interviewed him on camera.I have edited the video into an 8 minute video (see below) that tells the story of Safina House and gives a good understanding of what this ministry is really like.

Anyone who thinks their church or they as an individual would have an interest in supporting the mission of Safina House just contact us and we will see that you get a copy
of the video on a DVD (no charge).

The Safina Boys Sing...

Two Videos...

The first video at the left tells the story of Safina House.

Near the end of the video, there is an interview with Mwita, the director and co-founder of this mission.

In this interview, Mwita gives a brief version of what motivated him to begin this life ministry.

He speaks in Swahili but we subtitled it in English. It is well worth watching.

The second video at the bottom left of the page is of the Safina Boys Singing.

Mwita plays guitar and leads them in two very moving songs.
These boys are sifting through the rice, removing the small rocks that are commonly found in the large bulk bags sold there.

Everyone living in the home has an assigned job which benefits the well being of others.
